Day 27: Most epic scene
Entering the Hyrule Castle underwater in
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
I remember the first time I played this. It was at the end of a lengthy gaming session of a few hours and I was just about ready to call it quits for the night. When this scene unfolded in front of me, with the music and the action and the connection to the essence of the series I just enjoyed the experience of the whole thing greatly.
The black and white then being followed by the restoration of colour. The realisation that you were going to have to battle a horde of some of the most difficult enemies to this point. Connecting the story in your head of the Legend of Zelda, not just as a game but the lore of what builds the series.
I remember standing on the ledge in front of the stature of the hero, surveying the defeated guards and just soaking the surrounding environment in, absorbing the music and atmosphere and everything the scene offered.

At no other point in any game have I really ‘stopped to smell the roses’ to that extent. Wind Waker though, had quite a few of those moments.
I had this scene as my answer for a while but when it came time to add it to my 30 Day Video Game Challenge I had a few others that I thought worthy.
When Link meets Zelda in the Ocarina of Time.
The moon falling in Majora’s Mask
Killing of the Archdemon in Dragon Age Origins
Death of the King in Dragon Age Origins
The final Battle and ending of Portal 2
