Day 29: A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving

I first played this in the days where you would hire games around Saturday lunch and play them non-stop until Sunday afternoon.

I would have been about 10 and staying at a friends house for the weekend and he wanted to hire this. I complained so much ‘racing games are crap’

Mario Kart was like no other racing game of it’s time. I ended up playing this until the wee hours of Sunday morning. Racing games were no longer crap.

Since then I have owned every Mario Kart on a Nintendo home console. Including this little gem even though I bought it well into the Gamecube generation. Mario Kart Double Dash even featured in my 30 Day Video Game Challenge list.

Day 13: Game Played More Than 5 Times

Where after some though I concluded that I had probably played it well over 250 times.

My Day 24: Favourite Classic Video Game

Day 24: Favorite classic game

I am going to confine my interpretation of the Classic Game as any game from my first system the NES. With that in mind here is my latest entry on the 30 Day Video Game Challenge

This was the first Legend of Zelda game I owned and I used to play it almost every day when I was 6. Never beat it though until I discovered emulators, roms and save states when I was much older.

Some great music of the series by OC Remix

One of the misunderstood Legend of Zelda Games. This game got some bad reviews and is considered one of the worst in the series. I on the other hand love it. The storytelling that went into this game was epic for it’s time and it really established the Zelda legend. If you don’t know what I mean, check this picture set out.

This was a hard pick with so many classic games so I will mention a few just from the NES that were considered. There were also plenty more across other systems that could have easily won.
Mega Man 2 - check it out, it’s awesome
Mega Man 3 -
Super Mario Bros 3
Tenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Legend of Zelda

Day 19: Picture of a game setting you wished you lived in

The Mushroom Kingdom would be a great game setting to live in. First can I draw your attention to the stunning landscape found in Skyrim and the beautiful Hyrule concept are (think this is the artist here ). It’s true these are stunning landscapes but I’m sure there are some equally picturesque landscapes somewhere in Europe. Video game setting can go into the fantasy a little more.

The Mushroom Kingdom has a great castle centerpiece. The paintings will take you anywhere. You have these abilities to fly, swim, grow massive, shrink little, become invincible… etc. The fine Mushroom Kingdom residents also dabble a bit in sports as well as have some out-there parties. To top it all off you have a nice princess that loves baking you cake, what more could you ask for.

The top picture is by Bill Mudron prints can be got here

This is my 4th link to the Mushroom Kingdom and its inhabitants in my 30 Day Video Game Challenge. Check out what else I ramble about.

30 Day Video Game Challenge. Day 7: Favorite game couple

Day 1: Very first video game

Day 2: Favorite video game character

Day 3: A game that is underrated

Day 4: Your guilty pleasure game

Day 5: Game character you feel you are the most like (or wish your were)

Day 6: Most annoying character

Favorite game couple. I’m going to interpret this as a guy/girl couple as I’m sure is the intention of the description.

Many early games employ the ‘damsel in distress’ storyline. That’s just what other media represented more strongly. And was a simple enough concept for mostly young boys who were the target audiences.

It was this thinking that has produced probably the most recognisable ‘video game’ couple of all time. Obviously that is…

Lolo and… Pink Lolo (Lola maybe?)

No I am obviously referring to Mario and Princess Peach

image

Mario has been running to the Princesses rescue since 1985 and in countless games. They have raced karts, been Olympic representatvies in both Summer and Winter events, gone pro in Tennis, Golf and Baseball, as well as dabbled in many other sports. They have had many Parties and when there is some sorting out to be done they sort it out in Super Smash Bros Brawl style

A far better love story than Twilight.

30 Day video game challenge

Day 1: Very first video game

The first game I ever owned was Duck Tales on the NES. I got it for my 5th birthday.

The first game I ever played shouldn’t be much of a surprise to everyone and I would imagine it was the first game for many people.

Super Mario Bros on NES at my cousins house.
