Teaching Resources

I don’t often go out of my own way to post teaching resources/ sites etc to others. Honestly there is so much stuff on the internet that is honestly just crap - or not of any use to my class/particular situation. So with that in mind I am going out of my way to post something that I have found because I think it is extremely useful.

Link Here

I was only looking for some math tub activities and haven’t even been anywhere else on the site. At the very least there are enough small ‘tub games’ with sheets, examples and instructions that can be downloaded to make this a worthwhile look.

Teach or not to Teach

I just thought I would post something before I got stuck into school work. I need to think about some stuff anyway.

I have just got home from school at 6:30 and was there this morning at 7:30. Today was wet weather so I didn’t have a Lunch break and I had to keep a student in at recess so didn’t really have a break then either. I am preparing to get stuck into some marking/programing/etc and have quite a big list to get through tonight. I would imagine I will be working on school related stuff until about 10.

Computer Technology

Well I just completely unplugged 20 computers in the lab. Power, monitor, mouse, keyboard and Ethernet cables. ALL disconnected

I REALLY hope the S3 kids can put them together tomorrow. Otherwise I am going to be a little unpopular.

26 Books to cover for school and 5 rolls of contact… Lets see how long this takes me and how many books I get.

I’m guessing a long time and not many books.

Damn

EDIT:

This will be the LAST time I ever cover school books for a class. The only contact paper I could find in the right cover is absolutely garbage, there isn’t enough of it and the books look like crap.

Behaviour Management

I am job sharing on a Y1/ Y2 and needed to come up with a more streamlined version of my level up system for students.

Here is my Table Points excel system. As a table students get points and can see how they progress as a class and individual table (each student also has their own reward book)

It is a much easier to input points and show progress with only the one screen. It doesn’t allow as much individual data to be collected like the other system I had used did.

The Stage 2 class that I used this with the first time loved it and really saw the value in the ‘points’ they were getting. But I will admit, it was cumbersome to implement on the go.

I don’t really play my Nintendo DS anymore so will be taking it to school as a reward/teaching tool for the class. Anyone got some suggestions for games that would be good for teaching/entertaining 6 and 7 year olds?

One of the most difficult concepts to get across to students is adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. They just seem to be unable to understand why

they have to find a common denominator, how they have to find a common denominator, where multiplication comes in when you are…

I like this explanation. It seems very long and complicated but I could imagine working through it nice and slow as a different way to explain it

Thumb Drive Teaching

Well it’s time to go through my thumb drive from last year that has collected lesson plans, resources and other bits and pieces from my year of casual teaching.

Now I get to organise it all and get rid of duplicate files and the rubbish that I don;t need.

Anyone got good ideas about how they organise their teaching resources to avoid them getting cluttered?

Things that I am clearly too young to do
